  2. Track is sick, and will definitely get attention by the artists he is calling out. My boy was saying today if another person dropped this same track, like you, Mos Def, etc, they would be told they were hating.

  3. Such a strong song!! What do you think of the whole autotune movement? You want it to die? I like what KRS1 basically said: that it’s cool that T-Pain made the sound popular and bigups to him, but that doesn’t mean the whole industry needs to follow. The less autotune the better

By HomieOmey on Jun 6, 2009

  4. I think DJ Quik should be given a pass to use it because he actually recorded with Roger Troutman as well as T-Pain. But the Pop Champagne dude give it up. It’s funny Common, after I heard D.O.A. this morning the next 4 tracks I heard used auto-tune I’m glad Jay spoke up. Can the fans get you and Kweli on that track that sh*t is bananas big up to No I.D.

ALSO, let me just say I remember meeting you in evergreen plaza @ the journey’s right next to foot locker, when Take it E.Z. dropped. It has definitely been a proud moment for me to see how far you’ve come in music. Well done.

  5. One of the dopest tracks this year. Jigga @ his best with the rhymes and the third Outkastmember really puts it down with the production.

    Kanye listen up.

  6. J has done it again. I have been talking about this for the last 6 months. I am glad that someone with J’s stature in the industry has spoken out. I agree with KRS 1, it was cool for T-Pain and props to him, but everyone should have left it alone! Big ups to J!

  7. It is what it is……this track aint no #1 chart topping single, no #1 on i tunes, it’s just hip hop…it’s fuckin raw….

  8. its deeper than copying t pain – i mean they are all posers anyway and wont be remembered – the real issue with autotune is people like Britany Spears use it to correct their pitch, not add TPain effects – and thats why the indie/alternative scene is against autotune – it can make anyone sing in key – and is cheating – i did a track the other day at my boys studio with autotune and i sounded as dope as eminem rapping – because autotune pitch corrected it all – so its not about that annoying vocoder effect – its about using autotune to sing when you arent a singer

  9. So glad you never jumped on the glitter auto-tune band wagon driven by Richard Simmons rockin his lil spandex shorts. So glad… thank you

  12. Co-signed. I’m a pro audio engineer and I agree…Auto Tune should freaking DIE. We use a different approach to tuning vocals at our studio, and it works for us.

AT only covers up the fact that nowadays peeps can’t SING!! Some may have hope with a few vocal lessons, but others just have to get a clue. They need to find another line of work.

Big ups to Com, always! Much love my brother.

  14. Sick track! Already one of my favourite Jigga Beats :) I’ve got to say I haven’t heard a single AT track that i actually like!?

    By Video2000 on Jun 8, 2009

  15. Thank you Jay! Kanye is about the only person who has done an all auto-tune album that I’m feeling. He used it as a tool, to make an album that has always been in his head, that otherwise he wouldn’t have been able to accomplish.

T Pain just flat out can’t sing.

And take it from me, an audio engineer, it’s way beyond time that we get people with actual talent back in the studios.

Now can we stop falling back on this busted ass gimmick.

By Argot on Jun 8, 2009

  16. The President of Hip-Hop has given his State of the Union Address. I see everyone tuned in. If you were getting tired of rappers singing Auto-Tune Songs and forgetting to rap, then please STAND UP!!

By trenoops on Jun 8, 2009

  17. we are tired of hearing auto-tune everyday sometimes you dont know who is spitting because the whole scenario sounds the same, all the gimmicks must leave auto-tune to those who knows it best like t pain, kanye and weezy

  18. LoL……Hovi baby!!!! yo CS this dude is ill, kinda like the confrontation of the technology, dont get me wrong i lyked 808s but this thing must be burried R.I.P. AT

    By Sihle(South Africa) on Jun 10, 2009

  19. Autotune should have and never was to be used for all in hip-hop/rap. T-Pain had it to an art, OK fine. Weezy is an idiot for using it on all his raps, and it is clear he is lost in the game. The only thing he says “I have sold X million records:” KRS1 said it best: “For the mill I don’t run.” That’s not what hip-hop is about.

Jay is back killing em. The Blueprint 3 will be one of the best rap albums out this year. Period.

Autotune is wack, hang it up!

  21. yo first off he ain’t calling out anyone. read up fools. he got the idea for the song after seeing a wendy’s comercial. they were using autotone in the comercial. he’s also saying be orig with your shyt. just cause tp makes it sound good don’t mean it’s for everyone. especially when you got comercials trying to copy off it. go back to just rappin. read up fools cause he ain’t dissing anyone. he already came out and stated that.

    By C on Jun 29, 2009

  24. Now I could be wrong….but isn’t this the same method used by Zapp and Roger back in the day? More Bounce (a timeless classic) seems riddled with it.

By TheBank on Jun 29, 2009

  25. Even T-Pain uses auto-tune as a joke now (watch the live action Aqua Teen Hunger Force or “I’m on a Boat” by Lonely Island) just like South Park did, when it mocked Kanye. It’s good to see someone within the hip-hop community put down auto-tune, because it lends more credit to the anti auto-tune group.

By ADM on Jun 30, 2009

  26. Jay is clever. All I could do is smile when I first heard it. I loved the joint so much I couldn’t help but take Jay’s lyrics and do the whole song using AutoTune! He left it wide open. LOL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zi10E_sm4Lg

    By J Hustle on Jul 1, 2009

  27. this song is soooooooooooo raw. Man! I can’t wait til the album come out. I got to cop that. Hew right everybody trying to use auto-tunes instead of going on the talent they got (If they got any). Music had started becoming boring cuz everything sounded the same. Only Jay-Z could have spoken up about it and people agree. Anyone else would have been told to shut up cuz they didn’t think to use it.

By Pharsite on Jul 3, 2009

  28. im a hip-hop head thats a lyrics fiend, i know jay isnt 100% original but when he said “This ain’t a number one record This is practically assault with a deadly weapon” i was like OOOOOOOOOOOO, originality is missing in the game these days and its time for the veterans to step up and take us back to where it belongs, like it was in the golden age, when lyrics were abundant and there was no soulja boy or getting silly, but there was electric relaxation and T.R.O.Y., and Lupe, keep doing your thing, a bright light in the darkness for hip hop
