Wow...for the Conneticut BAP. No one said this was typical in the African American community but you. Unfortunately, you should probably leave your suburb and ride to the city. There are many children who speak like Precious. Also, abuse, rape and incest isnt a race issue. It happens in all races and social economic settings. Instead of bashing the movie...research and know what your talking about! You'll be suprised of how many girls you went to school with had been molested by a family member.

BTW...Tyler and Oprah became a part of the productions team after reviewing the movie. Stop hating!

I know I'm hella late responding to this. I saw the movie opening night. The movie was very dark...the actors were superb!!! I read the book in the 90's. When I read it I thought damn....they should make this a film. Cool OPrah supported the film. I thimk she should have supported the novel PUSH. She should have listed it in her book club! Hell if her audience could see the movie...I'm sure they could appreciate the book!

I finally got to the theater and watched it. I went to an independent theater and you already know that there weren't many other black people in it. With that being said, the giggling wore me out too. When the two actresses were laughing at the baby wrapped in a bloodied blanket, i percieved it as they were nervous or high and didn't really get that severity of the situation. Just not sure why the audience followed the mentality of the actresses instead of undetstanding the reality of the scene... Independ theaters depicting minority groups tend to host a "majority" audience that can't relate to such situations. Kind of disturbing. And why am I starting to be convinced that Mariah Carey really can act? Nothing about her said "Glitter". Go head on Mimi!

Great movie

I saw it twice on opening day - early in the AM with an older crowd, and again in the evening with a more diverse crowd. The movie was stunning in its ability to stir emotions and capture Precious' enduring spirit.

Even though there were giggles in the younger set, those were stilled about 1/2 through the movie. And all the actresses did an amazing job!

Precious hasn't open up here in Charlotte, NC yet. It will open on this Friday. I've been looking forward to this movie since last March, when I found out about it...even more now that everyone is giving it such good reviews. Needless to say I've already looked up showtimes for Friday and will be getting the tickets tomorrow!! ;)

I have not seen it yet. I often get too emotional. I cried on Akeelah and the Bee's trailer and the Great Debaters' trailer right in the movie theater. I do not like to do that in public. I will have to wait until it is on cable or dvd.

I will not go to see but I admire the people who made it. Like horror movies I do not find watching pain entertaining and I do not neeed a horrific movie to raise my awareness of the pain of others.

Just trying to live a peaceful life. Love a blessing to you all.

Man, unfortunately I live in a racist city in Florida named SARASOTA. In all my years of living here I have never seen any black directed or produced film stay for more than two weeks if it comes at all. And they have NEVER given any black film a good review in Sarasota's herald tribune.

Precious never even made it to any movie theatre in this billionaire rich ass city. It's sad because they try to say how much they support the arts and film.

I heard it was a very moving film. I will have to check it out on my day off from work. Movies like that usually get to me so I guess I will have to bring lots of tissue. Anyway if you went to see it twice in one week then that speaks volumes to me...so now im really compelled to go and see it...I will let u know my reviews on it. On another note...common I saw you in concert back in October in B-more and you were awsome. When are you coming to Miami again?

I went to the matinee today with my mother & aunt who drove in from Connecticut to see it with me. I'm sorry; I loathed the film, I was unable to relate to the characters. My aunt simply hated it, & my mother was left speechless. (Not because she enjoyed it, I think she was just traumatized)

I should've known Tyler Perry had a hand in this movie as executive producer, because I've despised every movie he's ever made, especially if Madea was involved.

The only thing I was impressed with was the fact that Jeff Fletcher wrote the screenplay. I went to school briefly with him & is mother was my Dean & then Principal.

They hyped Precious, like it was the Holy Grail of movies. When in fact The hype for Precious indicates a culture-wide willingness to accept particular ethnic stereotypes as a way of maintaining status quo film values. DON'T BY INTO THE HYPE!!! I want African American characters that are uplifting, who can speak proper English, who aren't abused or raped & every other stereotype you seem to find in black films. I want a film I can relate to & NOT written by Perry who I'm convinced hates women, it clearly shows in all his films. (I know he didn't write Precious, I'm just making a comparison) I don't understand her world, nor care to. Again, not a fan of Precious! Wake me when an actual epic film is released, starring African Americans. I won't hold my breath!

One of the best films I've seen this year. It was very raw and inspiring. The cinematography was amazing. All the actors did an excellent job. Monique definitely deserves an oscar for this for sure. It reminds you to really live in the present, love yourself and keep on moving forward no matter what happens.

I loved it...It was real !!! People face these challenges every single day. The acting and casting was phenomenal...not a bunch of size 2 actresses depicting reality. I am glad Oprah picked this up from the Sundance Film Fest from the novel PUSH....

What is sad are all the negative comments about Precious' weight. C'mon people, stop being shallow and embrass the message and the talent this young lady displays..

Precious was an awesome dramatization of the book. I was saddened by the giggles in the audience and people missing the need for compassion, activism, and literacy. However, I was moved and motivated to do more. Month'nique and Mariah were excellent. The young lady that starred in the film warmed my heart with her performance. Overall a great piece of artwork!!
