This clip offers a sneak peak at the upcoming Bad Brains documentary. A hardcore punk band formed in the late 70s, the Bad Brains are legends of the music world:

“BAD BRAINS has announced that it is in the final stages of production for its acclaimed documentary. No release date has been set yet.

The yet-untitled film was directed by Mandy Stein and Ben Logan and traces the history of the band from their formation in Washington, D.C. in 1979 to the present day. In addition to tons of footage from the band’s vault, the movie includes interviews with all four members (vocalist HR, guitarist Dr. Know, bassist Darryl Jenifer and drummer Earl Hudson) and their manager Anthony Countey, as well as testimonials from Henry Rollins, ex-Minor Threat and Fugazi vocalist Ian MacKaye, ex-Minor Threat guitarist Lyle Preslar, ex-Cro Mags vocalist Jon Joseph and guitarist Harley Flanagan, Murphys Law guitarist Jimmy Gestapo and Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch, who produced Bad Brains 2007 album Build a Nation.

In addition to giving birth to the hardcore movement with their song “Pay to Cum” and inspiring all of the aforementioned musicians in the process, the Bad Brains had a huge influence on a new breed of late ‘80 and early ’90s metal bands, including Living Colour, Faith No More, 24-7 Spyz and Fishbone. While the Bad Brains flick is currently in post-production, it will be ready for release in a Jamaican minute.”

Some influential entertainers make appearances including Spike Lee, Chris Rock, Rosie Perez, Vernon Reid, Carl Hancock Rux, Saul Williams, Lorna Simpson, Alva Rogers, Kevin Powell, and Bill Stephany among others.

“Pumzi”: Kenyan Sci-Fi Short Film

“Pumzi” is Kenya’s very first science fiction film, written and directed by Wanuri Kahiu:

“Pumzi imagines a dystopian future 35 years after water wars have torn the world apart. East African survivors of the ecological devastation remain locked away in contained communities, but a young woman in possession of a germinating seed struggles against the governing council to bring the plant to Earth’s ruined surface…”

The film is now playing at Sundance five times between Friday and Jan. 30. Director Kahiu’s future plans include expanding Pumzi to feature length film as well as cultivating her local film community.

‘Black Panther’ Animated Series Intro

The new series is written and co-produced by Reginald Hudlin, and premiered this month on Australian children’s channel ABC3. Djimon Hounsou voices Black Panther, king of the African nation of Wakanda.

Comics fans will certainly appreciate the John Romita Jr. art used in the intro (or at least, it sure looks like Romita’s art) from the “Who Is the Black Panther?” story arc authored by Hudlin and Romita.

Along with Hounsou as T’Challa, Stan Lee provides the voice of General Wallace, JB Blanc voices The Black Knight and (wait for it…) Batroc, Kerry Washington voices Princess Shuri, Alfre Woodard as Queen Mother and Dondi Reese, and Jill Scott provides the voice of X-Men member Storm.

The series currently has no air date/network set for the U.S.

Soundtrack For A Revolution: NYC Screening

Last week, LA had a chance to screen the powerful documentary, Soundtrack for a Revolution, and even participate in a post-film panel discussion with executive producer Danny Glover, filmmakers Bill Guttentag and Dan Sturman, producer Dylan Nelson, and music producer Corey Smyth.

Now NYC can screen the film too. Starting NEXT WEEK (Friday, January 22nd), there will be multiple screenings at Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM).

Apartment interior in Paris by Ecole, a French architecture and design studio… Dope!

Facing the Eglise Saint-Gervais on one side and the Hôtel de Ville de Paris on the other, this 95 sqm apartment occupies the whole of the the two top floors of an 18th century building. The project comprised a full restructuration of the existing space and the conception of some design elements. The first floor, formerly consisting of a long corridor and four rooms has been largely cut open. Thus, the entrance, the living room and the kitchen form one single continuity. The guest space (a bedroom and a bathroom) has been built on the same floor. A steel staircase links the living room to the owner’sv private space underneath the roof.

German company Ivorilla has taken the old 1930’s flat Jeep metal gas cans and turned them into two styles of functional storage cases and luggage trolleys. The distinctive 47cm x 35cm x 16cm large canisters have a volume of 20 liters and can hold anything from undies to CDs.

By adding hard polymer heavy duty trolley wheels and aluminum telescopic handle, they’ve turned an old functional item into a new one with greater possibilities. The GasCase has a petrol-resistant lining to prevent corrosion and is made from robust 0.9mm thick pickled sheet-steel.

They have a “diesel” version and a “fuel” version, The diesel version opens from the side and the fuel version from the top.

I was reminded to look up, to look inward, and to look outward and always be a blessing in somebody’s life. Looking up meant to always give things to God….looking inward means to really know who you are, and find out what your heart wants….and looking outward means that whatever you have learned and come into understanding about yourself you should give to others.

Buying (PRODUCT) RED laces, which are specifically designed for football boots but can be worn by anyone, is just one of the things you can do to help fight AIDS in Africa: 100% of the proceeds go to the Global Fund and to Nike football-based programs.
